I spent most of the Bank Holiday in Ayrshire. I visited my parents and then I went to Ayr for the Ayr moot in the evening.
The parents' visit could have gone better. It wasn't entirely unpleasant but my father has a very bad attitude. He answered the door and immediately snapped at me that I should have been there earlier. I had originally given them an ETA which was a bit earlier than I actually arrived at but that was before I had got to the station and discovered delays. Obviously I was a bad person for that.
I got on OK with my mother, and the social support worker who was there helping her with my sister. The relationship between my father and myself is difficult. He would have made a very good counsellor as he is able to get right to the base of whatever is troubling someone - and then he inserts the knife and twists. I don't know why he does this, he seems to get some sort of enjoyment from it.
I knew I should have left earlier than I did. My sitting there only gave him the opportunity to bring up the reason why I ended up not talking to them for a very long time. He wanted to provoke me, and I did begin to react only to realise and stop myself. I left shortly afterwards, but no doubt he will have another go at some point. I don't know how I will handle this. It's as well he got me on a day when my mood wasn't too low.
I went on to Ayr after that. I got to the pub where the moot had met in last year, thinking it was still the same one. They had moved and the pub staff knew nothing about them. Fortunately with a few texts I was able to track them down and meet up with the moot after all!
We had a talk on the elements and then I had a conversation with someone who does re-enactment and a form of Norse martial arts.
It was a lovely day, weather-wise, yesterday, let's hope this is how the summer will be.
